Week 3 - 9/13/2020

ETERNAL CHURCH

Building for eternity.

Our mission as the church is temporary but our result is eternal.

Now let’s go even further with that thought.

You ever seen a construction site? in downtown, in the city centers…you see buildings and you see these frame like structures that go up around it….

It’s called scaffolding.

Scaffolding

Now we may look at ourselves and our ministries and think of them as magnificent temples…

Church buildings are temporary.

Our brands and ministry followings are temporary.

There is only one goal and has always only ever been on goal.

Jesus glorified.

Our mission as the church is temporary, for an eternal benefit.

Our purpose was to help construct….to help build…to provide platforms for the Holy Spirit to stand on and repair, build, strengthen….

God uses people.

Paul was blind , and a man prayed for him and he was healed.

Why didn't God just heal him?

He spoke to him from heaven.

Acts 9:3-5

3 Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. 4 And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” 5 And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.

9:17-19

17 So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized; 19 and taking food, he was strengthened.

Scaffolding is never the main goal.

As Christians we can view what we are doing in ministry as the main thing when we forget that we are only the scaffolding. Ministry is equipment that God uses. It is not the main thing.

If we can view our ministry as the church as scaffolding we can begin to place ourselves in the right frame of mind.

The only purpose for scaffolding is to build.

If all the construction and building was done…there would be no need for it.

The church is scaffolding….

Sometimes we get confused with our roles.

Jesus leads the church, the Holy Spirit works on us, our role as the church is like scaffolding… Our role is to lift up the name of Jesus.

Our eternal function as the church is not to disciple, but to worship God

The end result of true discipleship is Worship.

Psalm 86:12

I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,

    and I will glorify your name forever.

Our mission as the church is temporary but our result is eternal.

Matthew 24:45-51

45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant,[c] whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 47 Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. 48 But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants[d] and eats and drinks with drunkards, 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know 51 and will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

I’m not worried about what man says, I’m worried about what the one whom I serve says.

The Mission of the Church is Discipleship.

The end product of Discipleship is Worship.

Worship is eternal.

The Mission of the Church will come to an end.

Our mission as the church is temporary but our result is eternal.
